Denver Project Healing Waters
Well we did our PHWD fishing trip up to Rainbow Falls private fishing club last weekend. I wanted to thanks Rainbow Falls for their gracious hospitality in letting us bring the vets up there to fish. I also want to thank Lamson Reels for donating some fantastic reels to put on the brand new rods the vets built. It was a cold and rainy day but the vets that could make it up for the day had a great time. Here are some photos of the rods all lined up and some of the fishing action. I had a great time working with everyone and finishing the rods. Everything came out really nice and everyone seemed to really be happy with their rods. Thanks to everyone involved with the class. I look forward to doing it again this fall!

Project Healing Waters Denver
I have added a donation button on the front page of the website. This is to donate to the Project Healing Waters Denver chapter. This spring we taught 6 vets how to build their own rods. There is also a regular group that meets to learn how to tie flies. We will be doing another rod building class for more vets this fall. PHW Denver could really use some funds to help us out with these classes and trips to take everyone out to use their new flys and rods! Please donate!

PHW raffel rod
Well it is a great Sunday morning in Colorado. The weather has calmed down and the heat is gone for at least one more day. Even though I should be fishing I am dedicating some time today to finish wrapping up the donation rod I am making for PHW Denver. It will be raffeled off at local fishing shops over the rest of the summer. Anyone that would like to win it will have to go in and buy a raffel ticket! I will post the details and schedule of where it will be when all of that is ironed out. I will also post some pictures of it when I finish it this week!
Good fishing!
Matt

Russian River Alaska
Well I am back from my trip to Ak with family. We had a fantastic time but as always the fishing is the highlights. I have tons of photos on the Rollling River Anglers Facebook page and am putting tons on here as well. I have also added a few videos of the fishing and some bears. I will have more to come with I get them from my fishing compadres! The fishing was good but not great. The salmon runs are pretty low this year but that means the bear counts are even greater! The grizzleys were patrolling the river pretty hard. We were kicked out of fishing spots pretty regularly because of them. The party has some great videos of it all and I will get it on here as soon as possible. The new rod I built for myself should be up on the site soon. I took it up there to test it out on salmon and it performed beautifully. Now it will be used as my local carp rod! Good fishing to all.

Alaska Fishing Trip
Well I am off this week for Salmon, greyling, and Rainbow fishing in the great state of Alaska! Will be fishing small streams for a few days and then the Russian and Kenai rivers for Sockey and Rainbows. I will be brining back lots of photos for you all to see of course. The group will be my father, brother, brother-in-law, and nephew. All rods were built by Rolling River Anglers so of course I will have to get photos of everyone and their fish! Will be trying out my new 8wt G-loomis 4pc up there to. Just putting the finishing touches on the newly built rod tonight so it will have to be broken in! Also will be testing out my new Waterworks Lamson Guru reel I got the other day. Will be testing it out on greyling and rainbows while I use my Lamson Velocity 4 on the Salmon! Love their products and will be putting them to the test next week for sure! Hope everyone is having a great summer of fishing!

PHW Rod Class
Headed to another rod building class tonight! Everyone is doing really well on their custom fly rods so far. A few of the guy have made real progress lately and will be finishing up their rods in the next week or two I think! It will be so fun to get everyone finished so we can take them out to catch fish! Hope every one is having good luck fishing. Someone needs to send in some fish stories and photos so we have proof that someone is actually fishing!!

Mailing out Jeremiahs rod in the next day I think. Hope he likes it! I know I wouldn't mind taking it out for a spin before I ship it!
Good Fishing!

Carp Fishing
Hey everyone! A friend of mine and I have been talking about fly fishing for carp this spring. We have a few ideas but I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone has any advice for us! Anyone that knows the Denver or Colorado areas would be great since that is where we are, but any carp advice would be appreciated. Also if anyone has been out lately and wants to share photos or stories of hot fishing in late Colorado winter post a comment so we can see whats going on!
I know there are some carp fisherman out there in the metro area because I have seen them from time to time. Hope some of them see this and respond!
Good Fishing

Project Healing Waters
We had the second rod building class last Wednesday night. Everyone started to wrap guides on their fly rods. Most everyone managed to get at least one guide completed and several finished two! It was a great night of fun for everyone for sure. It will be a blast when they finish them and actually get out to cast and catch fish on them! Looking forward to this week and getting more completed on the rods. A big thanks to the Custom Rod Builders Guild for allowing us to borrow their rod building jigs for this project. The vets and volunteers greatly appreciate their generosity and they are working out great!
I have attached photos of some of the builders and a short slightly choppy video (first time using the camera!) so everyone can see how much fun they are having.

Good luck fishing!
I know I am starting to get the itch pretty bad. Have to finish some projects and hopefully be out on the water in the next few weeks!

Project Healing Waters Rod Building Class
Hey everyone!
Well had the last meeting to prep for the custom rod building class for the Project Healing Waters vets last night. We will begin the class next Wed with I think 4-5 people.  I will have to give an update after the first class. We got everything together and ready I hope! I have a lot of work to do this weekend getting everything prepped and ready but it will all be worth it. Have to get the custom cork glued up so I can get their handles made to! Will have to finish the other customers custom fly rod on Sunday so I can finish the prep work. Then I get to start on another custom bamboo fly rod restoration after that. It will be a busy next few weeks but I am looking forward to the work. It is always fun to finish fly rods up. Even though I am still fully involved with ski season right now I am really getting antsy to get out with a new fly rod and test out the waters! Just need the ice to come off a bit! Well good luck fishing to everyone that has been going out.

5wt custom fly rod
Well looks like I will put the finishing touches on the 5wt 4pc custom fly rod I have been working on. It is a nice piece. It should fish really well to! Didn't do much to fancy on this one. The customer wanted nice but not over the top. Used a regular cork grip, not the usual hand built custom corks I do. The thread wraps were nice with a little flair but again nothing to fancy. Should have the epoxy on this weekend with the inscription and hopefully get it in the mail next week. Then on to working on the Project Healing Waters rods that we will start building in a few weeks. Lots of prep work for those custom rods before the vets ever get to see them!

PHW Class
Another great rod building class with the folks from PHW. One person has finished their rod and several others are close! Now time for me to put the finishing touches on it for them! Waiting on some name water slide decals for each of them which will be a nice touch. We just got the PHW etched into the wood reel seats which looks great! Thanks Larry! Now I have to finish turning the cork grips for everyone and get the reel seats and grips on the rods! Can't wait to get them out with their new hand made custom fly rods and see them catch fish with them! I shot some video the other night and will have to get it up here for everyone to see!
Good Fishing
